“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” is a Chinese proverb that was never truer as I reflected on writing this article and what I wanted to eventually be when I grew up. The challenge has always been “my thousand miles.” It started in bunker boots with the fire department while trying to balance my two passions: firefighting and flowers.
